Premier League 2023/24 Sack Race Betting: Who Will Be The First Top-Flight Manager To Leave?

Last season we saw an incredible 16 Premier League managers sacked over the season – which was a record, so who do the bookies think will be the first boss to get the boot?

It’s a tight betting market but it’s Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Julen Lopetegui that tops the market at around 4/1, despite Wolves not the favourites in the relegation market.

Wanderers didn’t have the best of season’s last time and were actually the lowest scorers of all the sides – even those that went down. Therefore, it’s easy to see why some are homing in on Lopetegui to be the first to depart this post. Wolves will play Manchester United away in their first game too, which is, of course, a tricky start.

Next best in the betting is Sheffield United’s Paul Heckingbottom at 5/1 as he hoped to guide the newly promoted side to safety in their first year back in the Premier League since 2021.

The Blades are also one of the favourites to be relegated @ 8/13, with their first game a home clash against Crystal Palace.

Nottm Forest had one of the biggest squads last season and despite many crabbing that approach it eventually paid off as they managed to avoid the drop in their first season back in the English top-flight. Forest ended the campaign in 16th on 38 points and with an away tie against Arsenal in their first game on 12th August they might be on the backfoot early doors.

Their manager Steve Copper is on offer at 9/1 to be the first Premier League manager to get sacked market.

Fulham came up in 2022-23 and many tipped them for the drop too, but the Cottagers had a lovely season to finish 10th with 52 points so it’s slightly surprising that their manager – Marco Silva – is next best in the betting to be sacked at 10/1.

Fulham’s first game is away to Everton.

Joining Silva at around 10/1 is West Ham’s European-winning manager David Moyles, Luton’s Rob Edwards with the Hatters the big favourites to be relegated back to the Championship at 1/3, while Bournemouth’s Adoni Iraola is also on offer at 10/1.

Coming next is Everton’s Sean Dyche at 12/1 as the Toffeeman have only just survived the drop for the last two seasons, with Roy Hodgson (12/1), who Palace have extended his contract from the end of last season as their former boss was brought into save them after Patrick Viera was sacked.

Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Burnley’s Vincent Kompany are others that might attract interest at 20/1 – but really it will be a shock if the first Premier League manager to leave isn’t coming from one of this bunch.

Of the main sides, it’s hard to see the likes of City, Arsenal and Newcastle parting ways with their managers – but if they have bad starts and with the expectations high, then Pochettino Chelsea @ 25/1, Klopp Liverpool @ 33/1 or Spurs’ Ange Postecoglou @ 25/1 might come under pressure.
