Liverpool v Newcastle United 17:30

When Liverpool play Newcastle most people think of the epic 4-3 Liverpool wins the sides played out at Anfield in the 90’s, but since then we’ve not had a repeat – maybe we are due one!?

Well, if you do fancy history of over 20 years ago to repeat itself then a Liverpool 4-3 win can be backed at a stonking 81.00……………….to be fair you’d still probably want bigger than that!

Liverpool look nailed on for a top 4 finish with things very-much in their hands now. The Reds come into week 29 in third and are 4 points ahead of Chelsea, who sit in fifth.

At the other end of the table Newcastle are one of the sides in a relegation dogfight – the Toon Army sit 15th coming into this weekend on 29 points – that’s only 2 points off the relegation dropzone.

Looking at the match betting, Liverpool are the clear favourites to get all three points here at 1.20, with the Draw 7.00 and Newcastle as big as 11.00.

However, if you are thinking about wading into Liverpool – even at that price – be warned! The sides met earlier this season and that ended 1-1, while this repeat fixture in 2016 ended Liverpool 2-2

Newcastle. Did you know 4 of the last 9 head-to-heads ended in draws?

In fact, Newcastle have lost just 1 of their last 5 against Liverpool.

Having said that, Liverpool’s home record against Newcastle isn’t too shabby either. The Reds haven’t lost at Anfield in their last 21 league games when facing Newcastle. While the Geordies have beaten Liverpool just once away in the history of the Premier League (22 games).

The popular score line of late seems to be 3-0 to Liverpool – this has paid out in 3 of the last 8 clashes, so at 8.50 this might tempt punters in.

Mo Salah is Liverpool’s main man on the scoring front – he’s netted a staggering 23 league goals this season so even at 1.61 (anytime) and 4.00 (1st) he’s sure to be popular in the scoring markets. Newcastle’s Joselu and Gayle are their main hopes – Joselu is 4.75 anytime, while Gayle is 4.33.

However, the pick here is for UNDER 3.5 GOALS. Yes, Liverpool have been scoring for fun in recent games, but Under 2.5 Goals has paid out in 4 of the last 5 head-to-heads when these sides met so the 2.87 makes plenty of appeal too, but to side with a bit of caution then we’ll give ourselves another goal cushion – Under 3.5 Goals can be backed at a fair-looking 1.72. Don’t forget Newcastle’s manager – Rafa Benitez – will also be facing his old side and be keen to make life as difficult as possible for them.

BEST BET: UNDER 3.5 GOALS
