England v USA World Cup

Friday 25th November

Next up for England in their World Cup 2022 campaign is a game against USA and fresh from their 6-2 romp over Iran on Monday the sThree Lions will be full of confidence.

USA conceded a late penalty in their opening match against Wales to end the game with a 1-1 draw, but are still very much in with a chance of getting into the last 16, with Iran still to come after this game against England.

No shock to see the match betting favoring England here at 1.53, with the draw 4.20 and USA at 6.00, while there are 11 places between the two sides in the FIFA rankings.

The sides have met 11 times before, with England winning 8, just 1 draw and 2 wins for USA.

They last played in 2018, which ended in a 3-0 win for England and the Three Lions are unbeaten in their last five now over the US side.

Looking at the head-to-head stats, 4 of the last 6 meetings between the sides went UNDER 2.5 GOALS, which can be backed at 1.90, while both teams DIDN’T score in 6 of the last 8 – this is on offer at 1.80.

After a run of 6 games without a win, England ended that run with a 6-2 thumping of Iran on Monday and have now scored 3+ goals in their last 2 games.

The two match stats that seem to marry-up from both sides recent games is that USA have draw 4 of their last 6 and England have drawn 3 of their last 7. While both teams DIDN’T score in 6 of England’s last 8 games and also in 11 of USA’s last 14.

USA’s Christian Pulisic is their main man with 21 goals, but did take a few knocks in the last games against Wales so will been to be patched up for this.

Looking at England’s scorers, Harry Kane somehow wasn’t on the scoresheet in England last game when they scored 6, but still played will and was involved in many of the goal-scoring plays – he’ll, of course, be popular again in the scoring markets as he hunts international goal number 52.

With Arsenal’s Saka getting two and Jude Bellingham, Jack Grealish, Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling also getting in on the scoring act, then you can expect them all to be popular in the goal markets again – along with Foden.

Team news will always be key, but we feel Southgate will go with as close to the starting line-up against Iran and hope for another few early goals so he can rotate his side, like he did against Iran – that will benefit the squad as they move into the latter stages with other players getting a feel for the event.

Overall, you can expect the USA to make it hard for England and they played well in the first half against Wales, but showed in the second period in that match they are vulnerable and this should be another fairly comfortable win for England, despite it being slightly worrying they still let in two against Iran.
