It’s not been the best start to the season for both these Premier League heavyweights – Manchester United and Liverpool.
Yes, all the focus is on the troubles at United having lost their opening two games to Brighton and Brentford, but Liverpool haven’t done much better with draws at newly-promoted Fulham and Palace at Anfield. Therefore, there’s a lot at stake here on this Monday night game and we are only two games into the new season.
The match betting suggests a win for Liverpool though, with the Reds at 1.60 and favourites despite being the away team, with the draw 4.33 and United as big as 5.25 at home – crazy! Liverpool took 6 points off United last season too and have lost only 2 of their last 15 against the Red Devils in all competitions. There is a glimmer of home for United though as they are unbeaten in 6 of the last 8 repeat fixtures – you can back United/Draw in the ‘Double Chance’ market at 2.25. Both teams have scored in 7 of the last 11 clashes (64%), while the last four meetings have seen plenty of goals, with them ALL going OVER 3.5 GOALS. You can back Over 2.5 Goals at 1.53, or 4+ goals in the game at 2.30. It’s also a meeting that does have a habit of being a draw. You feel United would certainly take a stalemate, but it wouldn’t be on Liverpool’s radar after the start they’ve had 50% of the last 14 head-to-heads in all comps ended in DRAWS, while 3 of the last 6 at Old Trafford finished 1-1. You can back 1-1 at 9.00.
With Liverpool’s new signing Darwin Nunez seeing red in their last game over Palace, the Uruguayan will miss their next three games. So, the scoring markets won’t be figuring him, but Mo Salah does like to score when facing United – he’s netted an incredible 9 in the last 6! You can back the Egyptian at 5.00 (1st) or 2.20 (anytime). Overall, it’s an intriguing game that, you feel, will shape both teams season. Backing Over 2.5 Goals is an option, but with Mo Salah having a cracking record when facing United, the 2.20 on him scoring at anytime actually looks fair value.
BEST BET: MO SALAH TO SCORE ANYTIME @ 2.20
