Arsenal played okay for much of the first half against Liverpool last weekend, but the former champion’s class showed in the second period of the game.
The Gunners would have had their confidence knocked a bit after that game, but prior to that had been playing well and a home clash against struggling Newcastle is just what the doctor ordered for the Londoners.
Newcastle, who have just been taken over by some wealthy owners are struggling in bottom place with just 6 points and you feel the January transfer window can’t come soon enough for them.
We can expect the Toon Army to splash the cash in the New Year, but will the damage be already done by then as they bid to survive this season as a top-flight club ad then go to town in the summer transfer window?
The match betting here suggests an easy win for the Gunners at 1.40, the Draw 4.50 and Newcastle at 7.00.
Last season this clash ended Arsenal 3-0 Newcastle – a repeat of that can be backed at 11.00, and the Londoners also took 6 points off the Magpies last season.
In fact, Arsenal have a cracking record over the black and white men – they’ve won 16 of their last 18 league head-to-heads, plus won 6 of the last 16 ‘to nil’ – you can back an Arsenal win without conceding at 2.60. They also won all of the last 9 repeat fixtures!
It’s also interesting that we’ve had NO DRAWS in the last 17 league head-to-heads.
Other options are that both teams have NOT scored in 12 of the last 14 meetings – this can be backed at 2.00, while 7 of the last 11 meetings saw UNDER 2.5 GOALS – this is on offer at 2.30.
Looking at the scoring markets, it’s no shock to see Arsenal’s Aubameyang at 4.00 (1st) or 1.72 (anytime) – he’s netted in the last 5 head-to-heads! Lacazette is another obvious option at 4.75 (1st) or 1.95 (anytime), while the shortest Newcastle player is Callum Wilson at 7.50 (1st) or 2.75 (anytime).
Overall, this should be a good chance for Arsenal to get back to winning ways, but at 1.40 they are quite short. Therefore, we are happy to take a chance on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to continue his fine scoring record against Newcastle and back him to find the back of the net at 1.72.
BEST BET: AUBAMEYANG TO SCORE ANYTIME @1.72
