FA Cup Outright Betting Tips

Ok, the Premier League sides don’t join in until the third round in January, but before they do there might be some value to be had in the outright FA Cup market as bookmakers react to how the big sides are performing in the league.

Currently, Man City head the market at 6.00, with Chelsea 7.00, Man Utd 7.50, Arsenal 9.00, Spurs 10.00 and Liverpool 10.00.

A tight market, but with most of those sides above mentioned having other agendas this season – like Champions League football, or focusing more on a top 4 finish in the league then this plays it’s part too.

Arsenal are the holders and after last season’s 2-1 win over Chelsea actually become the most successful club in FA Cup history with 13 wins. In fact, Wenger’s men have won 3 of the last 4 FA Cups, so surely at 9.00 they look the value at this stage.

City top the market, but have just one outright win (2011) in the competition since 1968.

But over the last 31 years we’ve only really seen 3 shocks – Wigan (2013), Portsmouth (2008) and Everton (1995) – meaning in 28 of the last 31 FA Cups we’ve seen a ‘big-gun’ side – either Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool or Spurs – lift the cup.

In the last 9 years we’ve seen 3 wins each for Arsenal and Chelsea, plus 1 each for Man City and Man Utd.

Don’t forget Spurs will be playing all their home games in the league at Wembley too, so if they can make it to the final then they might have an edge over the others having played so many games there.

But the call is to stick with Arsenal – Wenger has found the winning formula in this competition of late and at 9.00 they Gunners look fair value to go well again. Back them now and there is sure to be a chance later in the season to even lay them off at a shorter price in-running…….providing, of course, they get through the opening few rounds.
