The action on the football front might be a little quiet at present, but we are now only around 3-4 weeks away from the start of the new seasons so not long to wait!
That said, we’ve still got a decent competition in world football going on at the moment with the CONCACAF Gold Cup being played over in America.
Twelve sides are doing battle but if the outright betting is anything to go by then really the competition looks between three sides – Mexico, USA and Costa Rica – with the three priced up at 2.37, 2.87 and 5.50.
Therefore, with Mexico playing Jamaica next this Friday (14th July) then this match looks a fairly decent clash with the sides having a fair amount of history.
What do the stats say?
They’ve met 13 times in all and with Mexico having won 11 and only lost once to Jamaica in those head-to-heads then it’s no shock to see them priced as short at 1.33 in the matched betting, with the draw 4.75 and Jamaica as big as 10.00.
They last met in 2016 in the Copa America with that one ending 2-0 to Mexico, while with the FIFA Rankings seeing Mexico in 16th and Jamaica in 76th then this is more evidence to suggest that this game should be a fairly straight forward task for the Mexicans.
Other options to note are that 4 of the last 5 head-to-heads went UNDER 2.5 GOALS so it’s slightly surprising to see that option as the second favourite in that market at 2.07, with OVER 2.5 Goals as short at 1.72.
The sides have already both played games in this competition with Mexico beating El Salvador 3-1, while Jamaica saw-off Curacao 2-0.
Both teams DIDN’T score in 7 of the last 8 head-to-heads either so at 1.70 this looks another decent option. However, a small note of caution surrounding this bet as in recent matches played both Jamaica and Mexico has scored to suggest they are both in fair scoring form at present.
So, on paper this looks a decent chance for Mexico to further cement their claims in this competition, but at 1.33 then we are not going to get rich backing them in the traditional win/draw/win market.
Therefore, why not try going for a Mexico win in the handicap market? We can back Mexico with a -1 goal start at 1.95, and this looks fair value. We just need Mexico to win the game by 2 clear goals to collect – something that, don’t forget, they did in their last game when beating El Salvador 3-1!
Best bet: MEXICO -1 HANDICAP @1.95
